EXECUTIVE SUMMARY UNITED WAY OF PORTER COUNTY IS A NONPROFIT 501(C)3 CORPORATION THAT MANAGES THE UNITED WAY RSVP NWINDIANA GRANT TO SERVE OUR REGION. UNITED WAY OF PORTER COUNTY'S MISSION IS TO LEAD, UNITE AND INSPIRE OUR COMMUNITY TO IMPROVE LIVES. WE ARE PROPOSING TO PLACE (400) RSVP VOLUNTEERS IN LAKE, LAPORTE, PORTER AND STARKE COUNTIES IN NORTHWEST INDIANA. OUR PRIMARY FOCUS WILL BE HEALTHY FUTURES, WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF AGING IN PLACE, FOCUSING SPECIFICALLY ON FOOD DELIVERY, COMPANIONSHIP AND TRANSPORTATION. WE ANTICIPATE 4,500 MEALS DELIVERED TO OLDER ADULTS AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, 1,000 OLDER ADULTS WILL INCREASE THEIR SOCIAL TIES IN THE COMMUNITY AND 1000 VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL RECEIVE AT-NEED TRANSPORTATION SERVICES. WE WILL ALSO PLACE VOLUNTEERS IN OTHER COMMUNITY PRIORITY SERVICES AT OUR RSVP STATIONS (AS WELL AS CNCS SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS) TO ASSIST NON-PROFITS WITH THEIR SERVICES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SENIORS TO ADDRESS UNMET LOCAL AND STATE NEEDS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE FINANCIAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE LIVES OF NORTHWEST INDIANA RESIDENTS BY THE END OF OUR 3-YEAR GRANT CYCLE. OUR PARTICIPANTS CITE SATISFACTION OF SERVICE THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY AND WE WORK TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE FULFILLED AND SATISFIED, AS ARE THEIR SITES. LAKE, LAPORTE, PORTER, AND STARKE COUNTIES MAKE UP OUR SERVICE AREA. WE ARE HOME TO 777,825 INDIVIDUALS AND HAVE MORE THAN 32 SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITHIN THIS SERVICE AREA. ONE IN EIGHT HOOSIERS ARE LOCATED HERE AND IT IS COMMON FOR WORKING FAMILIES TO TRAVEL NEARLY 26 MILES EACH WAY TO GET TO WORK, WE ARE A VERY TRANSITORY REGION, AND YET WE HAVE NO CENTRAL LINES FOR TRAIN OR BUS TO TRAVEL WITHIN. WE HAVE A CULTURALLY DIVERSE POPULATION WHEREBY 38% ARE MINORITY POPULATION.
