Description

Since 1974, volunteer new york! Has been the sole sponsor of rsvp of westchester. Under our guidance, rsvp of westchester has successfully connected thousands of older adults with volunteer opportunities that address pressing community needs. Older adult volunteers improve their own lives as they stay active and engaged, and feel useful and valued. For the proposed grant period, an estimated 850 rsvp of westchester volunteers will perform activities aligned with four focus areas: primary focus area, education: volunteers will serve as tutors and mentors in programs targeting at-risk youth and in low-income high schools to help students enter post-secondary institutions. Healthy futures focus area: volunteers will fill the support GAP to help improve the health and healthy choices of adults who are aging in place and increase access to care for youth impacted by the opioid epidemic. Economic opportunity focus area: volunteers will provide support, counseling, and training to hard-to-employ individuals. Veterans and military families focus area: volunteers will support the operations of the veterans administration?S food pantry system that serves low-income outpatients and their families, and volunteers will provide recreational support and companionship at a home for veterans. Also, through other community need priorities and capacity building, volunteers will serve at hospitals, senior centers, food pantries, and other nonprofits. At the end of the three year grant, key outcomes in our primary focus area of education will include: an increase in the number of K-12 student participants from 250 to 500, students will show documented improvement in academic performance, and economically disadvantaged students will be prepared for success in post-secondary education institutions. The cncs federal investment of $106,734 will be supplemented by $80,218 in non-federal resources.
