Description
A: executive summary kansas neurological institute (KNI), sponsor of the foster grandparent program of northeast kansas, is a state-supported residential and resource center serving persons with developmental disabilities. KNI operates on a person-centered philosophy. The mission is to support each person to have a meaningful life. KNI is requesting $397,195 to support 67 volunteer service years, and this investment is to be supplemented by at least $87,680 of non-federal resources. In the twelve-county service area, the national performance measures of school readiness (ED21) will be addressed at head starts and preschools. At the end of the three-year grant period, 90% of students served by foster grandparents will meet the outcome of ED23, having increased their social and emotional development to move on to the next level – for example, for five-year-olds, that would be to enter kindergarten. For those in elementary schools, the k-12 success output of ED4A will demonstrate that 70% of the number of students served by foster grandparents will have an outcome (ED27) that will show improved academic engagement as reported on the pre and post "time on task inventory" tests. A waiver was granted to allow foster grandparents to continue to serve persons with developmental disabilities who live at KNI and have had the benefit of foster grandparent relationships for 51 years. Program outcomes include persons who live at KNI and have a foster grandparent relationship and report a better quality of life. For 2017 a new inclusion performance measure allows for reporting hours in e-grants
