THE SEARK EDUCATION SERVICE COOPERATIVE SERVES 13 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN 9 COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS. THE SEARK FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM, SPONSORED AND HOUSED AT THE COOPERATIVE, PROVIDES SENIOR VOLUNTEERS TO AREA SCHOOLS AND PRESCHOOLS IN SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS. APPROXIMATELY 105 FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WILL SERVE AT THESE SITES. THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. ACTIVITIES THEY WILL PARTICIPATE IN WILL BE BASED ON STUDENT NEEDS AS DETERMINED BY COMMUNITY NEEDS IDENTIFIED AND CHILD'S NEED AS DETERMINED BY THE FGP CARE PLAN ASSESSMENT TOOL. THESE ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: READING TO CHILD, LISTENING TO CHILD READ, WORKING ON RECOGNIZING COLORS, NUMBERS; (PRESCHOOL FINE MOTOR SKILLS) CUTTING, DRAWING, AND BUTTONING. AT THE END OF THE 3 YEAR GRANT, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT 80% OF CHILDREN SERVED WILL BE ON APPROPRIATE GRADE LEVEL AND/OR DEVELOPMENTALLY ON TARGET FOR THEIR CHRONOLOGICAL AGE. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $427,440.00(2018-19) WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $131,248.00 OF NONFEDERAL RESOURCES TO MEET THESE OBJECTIVES.
