Description

Some of their activities will include providing assistance and friendship to adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. Program volunteers help these adults remain independent in their homes instead of having to move to more costly institutional care. Senior companions give families or professional caregivers much needed time off from their duties for respite and to attend to personal matters. Senior companions provide relational interaction and friendship for their clients. The primary focus area of this project is healthy futures-independent living and respite care. At the end of the three-year grant, homebound or older adults and individuals with disabilities (as well as caregivers of homebound or older adults and individuals with disabilities) will report having increased social ties and social support. The cncs federal investment of $264,980 will be supplemented by $66,364 of non-federal resources.
