THE COMMUNITY PLACE OF GREATER ROCHESTER, INC. (CPGR) DELIVERS HIGH-QUALITY, COST EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE GREATER ROCHESTER AREA. CPGR HAS SETTLEMENT HOUSE ROOTS THAT SPAN 100 YEARS AND HOLDS STRONG TO ITS MISSION "TO PROVIDE NEIGHBORHOOD-BASED PROGRAMS, SERVICES, AND RESOURCES WHICH STRENGTHEN THE GREATER ROCHESTER COMMUNITY, ONE PERSON, ONE FAMILY AT A TIME". AS BABY BOOMERS AGE, THE "GRAYING OF AMERICA" IS PROGRESSING AT A PHENOMENAL RATE. IN "A PROFILE OF OLDER AMERICANS: 2016," THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES REPORTS THAT THE NATION IS PROJECTED TO AGE SIGNIFICANTLY. BY 2040 THERE WILL BE ABOUT 82.3 MILLION OLDER PERSONS, OVER TWICE THE NUMBER IN 2000. CPGR IS REQUESTING 75 SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEER SERVICE YEARS (VSY'S) TO PROVIDE HOMEBOUND, DISABLED, AND OLDER ADULTS SERVICES THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. 82 VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOMES BASED ASSIGNMENTS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREAS OF THIS PROJECT IS AGING IN PLACE. ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE, COMPANIONSHIP SERVICES, SUCH AS COMFORT, ASSISTANCE WITH MEAL PREP, SOCIALIZATION, ETC. TRANSPORTATION SERVICES WILL INCLUDE ACCOMPANYING CLIENTS TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, PRESCRIPTION DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP, RUNNING LIGHT ERRANDS, ETC. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, 80% OF CLIENTS RECEIVING COMPANIONSHIP SERVICES AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES WILL REPORT HAVING INCREASED SOCIAL TIES/PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT. CPGR IS REQUESTING A CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $447,944.
