Description

Minnesota campus compact's (MNCC) mission is to support colleges and universities in civic engagement efforts that address pressing public issues like education, economic opportunity, public health, and environmental sustainability, while also preparing students for work, life, and citizenship. The proposed vista project aligns with the healthy futures focus area. The vista project will seek to increase low-income people?S access to healthcare, health insurance enrollment, information about health care, health education, emergency food, and long term hunger alleviation programs in community settings and on college campuses where low-income people are served. Our projects will also focus on increasing organizational capacity for participating sites. We expect to benefit more than 6,000 people who are uninsured, economically disadvantaged, medically underserved, or living in rural areas. Fourteen vista members, including one vista leader, will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as developing partnerships between higher education and community organizations, researching health promotion strategies, recruiting and training volunteers, finding resources, advancing outreach strategies, and engaging community members in creating programming, such as the development of culturally-specific health education programming. Vista members will contribute to these goals over the course of three-year project cycles at host sites, and the CHC intermediary program will address these goals on an ongoing basis by continuing to recruit and support new host sites as host site projects conclude.
