Description
ICO will serve as the rsvp sponsor and sole volunteer station with training and scheduling of rsvp volunteers conducted by ICO staff and coordination and management of the program by the rsvp program director. All rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. The rsvp program will address several needs of seniors and adults with limited mobility in the community, including access to health care, food insecurity, isolation, respite needs of caregivers and education related to safe independent living. Specific volunteer activities will include transporting seniors and adults with limited mobility to medical appointments, food pantries and grocery stores; visiting clients to provide companionship and combat isolation; providing education and guidance to clients on an array of issues pertinent to independent living and providing respite to caregivers of clients. The education for clients on independent living will cover such issues as increasing home safety to prevent falls and other accidents, educating and preventing elder abuse and identifying financial scams. The primary focus area of this project is healthy futures with the objective of aging in place. At the end of the three- year grant, 600 seniors, adults with limited mobility and caregivers will report increased social support as a result of the rsvp volunteers' commitment to providing transportation, companionship, education to prevent elder abuse and respite companionship. During the first year of the grant, the cncs federal investment of $75,000 will be supplemented by $7,500. ICO serves clients and recruits volunteers without regard to SEX, race, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion.
