AN ESTIMATED 165 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER, 120 WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: MEAL DELIVERY PROGRAMS AND COMPANIONSHIP TO HOMEBOUND, OLDER ADULTS, AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL HELP PREPARE AND DELIVER NUTRITIOUSLY BALANCED MEALS THAT PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING TO HOMEBOUND ELDERLY, OLDER ADULTS, AND DISABLED INDIVIDUALS. FRIENDLY VISITING VOLUNTEERS WILL PROVIDE COMPANIONSHIP AND THE SOCIAL CONNECTIONS NEEDED TO REMAIN HEALTHY AND IN THEIR OWN HOMES. IN ADDITION TO VISITS, THEY MAY PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO APPOINTMENTS AND HELP WITH ERRANDS RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL LEAD BONE BUILDERS, AN OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION EXERCISE PROGRAM THAT CAN SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASE THE RISKS OF THIS DISEASE AND PREVENT FURTHER DETERIORATION OF THE BONES IN PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE THIS CONDITION. RSVP VOLUNTEERS AT FOOD BANKS WILL HELP PROVIDE FOOD TO ELIGIBLE LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO ARE FOOD INSECURE. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA FOR THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT: 150 INDIVIDUALS WILL RECEIVE A TOTAL OF 5 MEALS FOR EVERY WEEK OF THE YEAR FROM MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERS. 15 HOMEBOUND OLDER ADULTS AND DISABLED INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE LIVING ALONE, ARE ISOLATED AND LONELY, WILL RECEIVE COMPANIONSHIP THROUGH FRIENDLY VISITING VOLUNTEERS. 120 PEOPLE WILL ATTEND AN EXERCISE PROGRAM (BONE BUILDERS) THAT WILL HELP PREVENT OSTEOPOROSIS AND PROVIDE BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT BONES, HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, EXERCISE, NUTRITION AND DRUG THERAPIES. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $100,390 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $53,736 OF LOCAL FUNDS.
