Description
The applicant is the board of commissioners of the county of norfolk, MA, an incorporated regional government agency which has sponsored this volunteer community service organization for over 30 years. The service area for norfolk rsvp consists of all 28 of the county's 28 cities and towns, communities mostly located to the south and west of the city of boston. Incorporated in 1793, the county provides regional services including land records management, vocational education, trial court facilities, engineering, veterans services, conservation, recreation, regionalization programs for our cities and towns (IE. Participatory animal shelter) and fulfills additional statutory responsibilities. Norfolk county rsvp's core mission is to recruit, place, support and revitalize volunteers living in norfolk county age 55 and older in programs to help meet diverse community needs. An estimated 315 rsvp volunteers will serve, with a minimum of 78 volunteers targeted to meet specific program outcomes to meet our 3 year grant requirements. Healthy futures is our primary focus area for targeting to meet specific program outcomes. Volunteer activities will include assisting older adults and individuals with disabilities (veterans) with transportation, companionship, and food delivery (meals on wheels) to maintain independent living; receiving respite services (hospice) and information on health benefits (veterans); receiving emergency food from pantries and food banks. Additional rsvp volunteer program areas include elementary school k-4 academic engagement of students in the reading and tutoring program, economy opportunity-employment development through ESL for immigrants and job support trainings for veterans. Other veteran programs and support to our general population of older and disabled adults through a variety of vehicles including hospital and senior center volunteering round out the range of community needs we will address through our programming. At the end of the three year grant, goals include quantifiable assistance to older adults, to veterans and their families in our service area and improved social support and food security through our food service programs. In the first year, the cncs federal investment of $78,602 will be supplemented by applicant non-federal resources of $107,466 with a reserve budget of $18,882. In future years, applicant resources are expected to be similarly proportionate, or higher, with respect to the federal investment.
