Mechoopda indian tribe will use this FY 2024 tvssa award to implement services for victims of crime that meet needs identified by the community and reflect tribal community values and traditions

The Mechoopda Indian Tribe received a $219,402 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) under the VOCA Tribal Victim Services Set-Aside Program (CFDA 16.841). The grant, awarded on January 1, 2025, will be used by the tribe to implement services for victims of crime that meet needs identified by the community and reflect tribal values and traditions. This aligns with the congressional intent for the Crime Victims Fund set-aside, which was created in 2018 to improve victim services in tribal communities. The grant will enable the Mechoopda Indian Tribe to develop, expand, and enhance comprehensive victim support programs, including victim advocacy, shelter, counseling, and legal assistance tailored to the specific requirements of their tribal community.

This aligns with the congressional intent for the set-aside from the CVF, which was created in 2018 to improve services for victims of crime in tribal communities. OVC administers the tvssa via a formula. Tvssa funds may be used for any purpose directly related to serving victims of crime.
