Galena village will use this FY 2023 tvssa award to implement services for victims of crime that meet needs identified by the community and reflect tribal community values and traditions

The Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime awarded a $251,383 Project Grant under the VOCA Tribal Victim Services Set-Aside Program (CFDA 16.841) to Galena Village, doing business as the Louden Tribal Council, a federally recognized Alaska Native tribal government located in Galena, Alaska. The grant will be used to implement comprehensive victim services that meet the identified needs of the tribal community and reflect its values and traditions. Allowable activities under this multi-year (2024-2028) grant include direct victim assistance, outreach, training, and capacity building for victim service programs. The funding is intended to improve access to culturally-appropriate services for victims of crime within the tribal community.

This aligns with the congressional intent for the set-aside from the CVF, which was created in 2018 to improve services for victims of crime in tribal communities. OVC administers the tvssa via a formula. Tvssa funds may be used for any purpose directly related to serving victims of crime.
