The coeur dalene tribe requested funding to conduct criminal investigations and prosecution of child abuse and sexual assault cases

The Coeur D'Alene Tribe received a $450,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Children's Justice Act Partnerships for Indian Communities (CFDA 16.583) program. The grant will fund the Tribe's efforts to conduct criminal investigations and prosecutions of child abuse and sexual assault cases, working in coordination with a multi-disciplinary team. Key objectives include supporting children and families, providing targeted training for the Indian Child Welfare Program and law enforcement, and conducting outreach activities surrounding child abuse and sexual assault cases. The 3-year project period runs from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2026 and aims to improve the prosecution rate of charges and convictions for child abuse cases in the tribal community.

The tribe will work in coordination with a multi-disciplinary team to adequately address child advocacy, sexual assault cases, and improve the prosecution rate of charges and convictions for child abuse cases. Their goals and objectives include supporting children and their families, providing targeted training for the indian child welfare program (ICWP) and law enforcement, and conducting outreach activities surrounding child abuse and sexual assault cases.
