Description

The miami gardens police department (mgpd) proposes the latent examination infrastructure and interoperability enhancement project (leiiep) under the FY25 paul coverdell forensic science improvement competitive grant program (the grant). The project replaces mgpds aging latent print examination workstation with an updatedlatent expert workstation and ten-print printer to maintain compatibility with the miami-dade sheriffs office (mdso) the host automated fingerprint identification system (afis) agency- as IT moves to a cloud-based afis. The upgrade prevents service interruption of forensic services and preserves timely and accurate latent fingerprint identifications. The project benefits residents of the city by ensuring uninterrupted forensic support for violent and property crime investigations and by keeping mgpd latent submissions accessible to authorized city, state, and federal partners via afis for identification and verification. Mgpd processes all city crime scenes and relies on seamless data exchange with mdso s afis; without this upgrade, mgpd would lose submission and verification access at countywide cutover. The $29,871 upgrade is not an enhancementit is an operational necessity. Activities include purchasing, installing, and validating the updatedworkstation, integrating IT into mdsos new infrastructure, and conducting network/performance testing to verify secure connectivity. The deliverable is a fully operational, cloud-compatible latent examination system ensuring uninterrupted afis access via mdso. Expected outcomes include continuous afis interoperability, zero disruption in latent processing, improved investigative efficiency, and adoption of emerging forensic technology consistent with the grant.
