The Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded a $1,000,000 Project Grant under the STOP School Violence Program (CFDA 16.839) to Arrowleaf, a non-profit organization in Illinois. The purpose of this 3-year grant is to prevent and reduce school violence through community-based interventions and training for students, school personnel, law enforcement, and caregivers. Key activities include: developing school safety plans with youth advisory councils and threat assessment teams; providing evidence-based training on violence prevention and response; increasing access to early intervention services; and raising community awareness to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. The grant aims to improve school climate, reduce bullying and harassment, and increase feelings of student safety across four schools in rural Illinois counties reporting higher rates of school violence than state and national averages.
