The New Dawn Charter School was awarded a $1,000,000 STOP School Violence grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance to implement a comprehensive school safety program. The three-year project, which runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2027, aims to improve K-12 school security across a consortium of 15 charter schools in New York City. Key elements of the program include: 1) developing and operating an anonymous reporting technology solution; 2) establishing multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment teams; and 3) providing training for school personnel and students on violence prevention, crisis response, and trauma-informed practices. The grant will serve over 10,900 students in grades K-12 across Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. The STOP School Violence Program is a federal initiative designed to enhance school safety and prevent violence through evidence-based approaches.
