The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) was awarded a $999,999 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance under the STOP School Violence program (CFDA 16.839). The grant will fund a 3-year project to improve K-12 school safety and ensure a positive school climate for PUSD's 14,020 students across 23 schools in Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and Altadena, California. Key project activities include: 1) Developing and installing technology solutions to increase communication and intelligence-sharing between schools and first responders; 2) Enhancing behavioral threat assessments and multidisciplinary intervention teams; 3) Providing training for school personnel; and 4) Hiring a safety liaison to support the prevention of school violence. The project aims to increase the ability to respond to threats, enhance collaboration between PUSD and community partners, reduce disruptive and violent incidents, and improve overall school climate and sense of safety.
