About this award

The New Jersey Department of Law & Public Safety, through its Office of the Attorney General, has been awarded a $300,000 Project Grant by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (CFDA 16.752 - Economic, High-Tech, and Cyber Crime Prevention) to increase criminal investigations capabilities for intellectual property enforcement statewide. The grant will support the state's established task force in combating crimes involving public health and safety, intellectual property, piracy, and economic-industrial espionage. Key goals include identifying counterfeit products, suspects, and businesses profiting from the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of counterfeit goods, as well as prosecuting these cases in collaboration with federal, county, campus, and local law enforcement agencies. This funding will enhance the task force's ability to identify, apprehend, and prosecute suspects, while also disrupting the financial operations of criminal organizations engaged in these activities.

Description

The task force proposes that IT will continue to work with its allied law enforcement partners to combat crimes involving public health and safety, intellectual property crimes, piracy, economic-industrial espionage and a focus on a community buyer awareness program backed by education, presented by task force members. The goals of this project are like past goals, which have resulted in successful intellectual property enforcement cases identifying counterfeit products, suspects, and businesses that profit from the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of counterfeit products and prosecution of these cases with the appropriate prosecutorial entity. Collaborating with federal law enforcement agencies, county, campus, and local law enforcement, will increase the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of suspects; and financially impact the criminal organizations engaging in this activity.
