The Kings County District Attorney's Office (KCDA) was awarded a $2,728,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Congressionally Recommended Awards program (CFDA 16.753). The grant will fund the Community Reentry and Support Project (CRSP), which will provide mobile mental health and wraparound services to individuals impacted by the criminal justice system, with a focus on those released to the community following arraignment. The CRSP team, consisting of psychiatric, nursing, and peer support staff, will be stationed in a mobile van parked near the Brooklyn Criminal Court to engage clients, conduct intake, provide treatment, medication management, and referrals to additional services. The project aims to ensure a seamless transition from court to community and connect individuals, including those experiencing homelessness, crisis, mental illness, and/or substance use needs, to critical support services immediately upon release. KCDA will partner with the John Jay College of Criminal Justice's From Punishment to Public Health (P2PH) team to enhance strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. The project will operate 7 days per week from 11 AM to 10 PM over the 2-year award period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026.
