Description
This crisis disproportionately impacts justice-involved individuals. IT also presents a unique opportunity to assist this at-risk population. The mission of justice assistance (JA) is to strengthen the community by providing a unique mix of innovative and critical services to assist our states justice system in a way that builds the capacity of people we care for to live safe, productive lives. Through the habitat for justice (HFJ) program, JA focuses on developing affordable housing and building career opportunities for justice-involved individuals. The smith hill neighborhood in providence is the focus of this project. JA will provide capital investments to the homes including structural repairs and quality-of-life improvements. The properties within the smith hill homes portfolio are already deed restricted as affordable have an occupancy rate over 90 percent. As an additional service, all residents of the smith hill homes project will be provided with supportive services through the comprehensive opportunities resources & employment services (cores) program. This program will provide residents with life skills development, career and education assistance, behavioral health access, and support from a community health worker/ peer recovery specialist. This project aims to close the wealth GAP for lower income earners by providing services to reduce barriers to success. The project will assist residents in the home with supportive services and workforce development, specifically in the construction trades. HFJ will provide its clients with the opportunity for upward mobility.
