The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) awarded a $305,000 Project Grant to the La Paz County Sheriff's Department to procure a new Special Response Team (SRT) vehicle. This vehicle will enable the county's regional SRT team, which includes members from the Sheriff's Office and the Parker and Quartzsite Police Departments, to provide rapid and safe response to critical incidents requiring specialized equipment. The SRT vehicle is designed to protect against a variety of threats, including small arms, assault rifles, explosives, and IEDs. This grant will support federal law enforcement operations of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection/Border Patrol (Yuma Sector) in dealing with cross-border incidents involving heavily armed narco-cartel members along the U.S.-Mexico border. The grant will also assist the Arizona Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division with traffic enforcement on Arizona and U.S. highways. The project period for this grant is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2027.
