About this award
The Clayton County Board of Commissioners received a $1,000,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (CFDA 16.585 Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program) to enhance their adult drug court program. The grant will fund the hiring of four treatment counselors to deliver evidence-based substance use recovery services, as well as one peer specialist to assist participants in maintaining recovery and rebuilding family/community connections. The project aims to provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and recovery support services to approximately 200 non-violent adult offenders, including 72 unduplicated clients, over the 4-year grant period. Key goals are to help participants achieve successful rehabilitation from drug and/or alcohol use, improve their health and wellness, and regain social functioning. The adult drug court serves a suburban community south of Atlanta, Georgia.
Description
The project seeks to hire four treatment counselors to deliver evidence-based curriculum and one peer specialist to help participants remain engaged in recovery and build family and community relationships. The focus is targeted toward mat services for those in need of sustaining recovery and preventing overdose. Recovery support services are requested to help participants improve their health and wellness, cope with addiction, and regain social functioning. The adult drug court is a post adjudicated program serving in a suburban community south of downtown atlanta. An average of 50 clients will be served with BJA funding each year of the grant, or 200 clients total, with 72 being unduplicated clients over the lifetime of the project. The minimum, maximum, and average length of program participants is 18 months, 36 months, and 24 months, respectively. The target population is HR/HN nonviolent offenders with a minimum of one prior felony conviction and an identifiable substance use disorder. Justice-involved persons must be 18+ years of age, have current charge(S) in clayton county, reside in the county, and have sufficient emotional stability and mental and intellectual capacity. The jurisdiction does not currently have access to all types of mat services but actively seeks mat providers in the south metro area.
