This $400,000 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance (CFDA 16.047 - Community-Based Approaches to Advancing Justice) to Right To Be Inc. will fund the development and scaling of bystander intervention trainings to prevent and de-escalate hate-based violence against LGBTQ+ community members in Texas over a 36-month period. Right To Be Inc. will create a bystander intervention curriculum, directly train 4,500 participants, equip 10-12 LGBTQ+ organization leads to deliver the training, and distribute materials to over 10,000 additional community members. The Houston Coalition Against Hate, a culturally-specific subrecipient, will support curriculum development and in-person training delivery in Houston and across Texas. The goal is to increase awareness of hate incidents and build participants' confidence and skills in safely intervening to prevent the escalation of violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.
