The Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) received a $1,150,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance under the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) program (CFDA 16.833). This funding supports the ACSO in completing the testing of 495 previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits identified in a 2015 statewide survey. Additionally, the grant enables the ACSO to develop protocols and procedures for investigating violent crime cold cases, including unsolved homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, and other violent crimes. The ACSO will conduct a full inventory of violent crime cold cases, evaluate and prioritize the cases, and test or re-test evidence to further investigations and hold offenders accountable. The ACSO has also established a multidisciplinary team to assist with the cold case investigations and provide support to victims and their families.
