Description

The purpose is todevelop an approach to implement comprehensive training and equipment to fortify and enhance our crime prevention strategies at the city of binghamton police department. The city of binghamton police department consists of 126 currently employed officers out of 145 budgeted officers which are handling an average of 56,703 calls for service yearly. With conjunction of efforts between the city of binghamton police department and its affiliate the southern tier crime analysis center we hope to spur information sharing and strategies to help curb violence and better relationships with the community in the city of binghamton in broome county, new york. Project activities include updating and expanding on current equipment and technologies those, being the departments pole camera system and vehicle plate reader systems, as well as improving some of the dated or unavailable fleet vehicles. IT will also involve investing in our community through initiatives like the citizens police academy and working with the boys and girls club of broome county to create positive interactions with the community. Additionally, IT will help provide some overtime funding to put additional vehicle and foot/bike patrols into areas showing signs of problems brought up by the community stakeholders and that have been observed by the crime analysis center. The final activity that will be built upon is working on building up the foundation of the binghamton police department members, by giving additional training opportunities through crisis intervention training, supervisor and leadership training, as well as other important training concepts of principled policing, community policing, implicit bias, and procedural justice. Expected outcomes will include the improvement and advancement of available technologies to help with the closure rate of criminal activity to make the community safer. To help update the police vehicle fleet to make the department'sability to serve the community more effective. Improve training for the young department and be able to ensure the community that we are up to date on the best policing and community engagement practices. IT will better give US the ability to create stronger relationships between the police department and community and effectively act on their voiced concerns brought to US through our community policing efforts.
