Description
The genesee county sobriety court (gcsc), located in genesee county, michigan is seeking $750,000 over 48 months from the adult drug court discretionary grant program (BJA-2022-171041), category 2: enhancement. The program is not seeking priority consideration. Genesee county has a population of 404,208 with approximately 18.3% in poverty (census 2020). In 2015, gcsc was established as a hybrid-DWI court that is a post-plea program. Gcsc is a four-phase treatment program that provides services to genesee county residents who have committed a non-violent misdemeanor or felony because of, or to fuel their alcohol use disorder. The program can provide services for up to 80 high-risk/high-needs participants and is intended to last 16-24 months. The average participant completes the program in 17 months. The program supports the participant's decision to utilize medication assisted treatment (mat) and does not deny program participation to participants seeking mat (BPS v). Participants have access to local providers for mat. The program provides support to participants by following the alcohol prevention and reduction plan, see attachment: alcohol prevention and reduction plan. The program's goals for this project are listed on pages 10-11 of the proposal narrative and are based on the nadcp best practice standards (BPS). Gcsc proposes program capacity expansion to serve an additional 20 high-risk/high-needs participants annually, or 80 over 4 years. The program anticipates hiring an additional full-time probation officer to balance the probation officer's case ratio while increasing program capacity (BPS IX). Gcsc proposes expansion and enhancement of the treatment services provided to include an additional full-time recovery coach, and additional treatment groups that are available both on evenings and weekends. Gcsc has not previously been awarded federal funding and is not leveraging any other federal funding sources. Gcsc was awarded the 24806-fiscal year 2022 michigan drug court program grant. Gcsc has a 4% population of medical marijuana participants. Medical marijuana participants will not receive services with these grant funds.
