About this award
The Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians received a $559,250 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program (CFDA 16.585). The funding will enhance the Tribe's post-adjudication Healing to Wellness Court by opening eligibility to tribal descendants and shortening admission time through acquiring a diagnostic assessment tool. Specifically, the Tribe will obtain the GAIN-I diagnostic assessment tool, which recognizes cultural competence in clinical diagnoses. This will allow the Tribe to reduce recidivism by eliminating drug and alcohol dependence for an increased number of justice-involved community members at a faster rate. The award period is from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2026 and the place of performance is in Hayward, Wisconsin.
