The New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) received a $761,000 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Body Worn Camera Policy and Implementation program (CFDA 16.835). The grant will fund the NJDOC Body-Worn Camera Expansion Project from December 2021 through November 2024.
The goal of the federal grant program is to support law enforcement agencies seeking to establish or expand comprehensive Body-Worn Camera programs. Under this award, the NJDOC will use the funding to expand its existing body-worn camera program for corrections officers across New Jersey state correctional facilities located in Trenton through the purchase of additional equipment and implementation of related policies. This will allow for greater coverage and oversight within state prisons, consistent with the goals of the federal program to maximize the benefits of body-worn camera technology for law enforcement.
