The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women awarded Sistercare Inc. $500,000 on October 1, 2025, under the Transitional Housing Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program (CFDA 16.736).
Sistercare, a woman-owned nonprofit headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina, will operate seven scattered-site transitional housing residences for survivors and their families in an urban region of South Carolina. The organization delivers victim-centered transitional housing and supportive services designed to move homeless survivors or those in need of housing assistance toward permanent housing. Services include case management, counseling, employment assistance, and permanent housing location support. Clients will receive assistance for a minimum of six months and a maximum of 24 months.
The award runs through September 30, 2028. Sistercare collaborates with the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault on project implementation.
The program supports minors, adults, and their dependents who are homeless or require housing assistance as a result of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, serving populations for whom emergency shelter or crisis intervention services are unavailable or insufficient.
