The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women awarded $500,000 to Emmonak Women's Shelter on October 1, 2025, under the Violence Against Women Discretionary Grants for Indian Tribal Governments program (CFDA 16.587). The award runs through September 30, 2028.
Emmonak Women's Shelter, a tribal nonprofit serving 13 villages and 18 tribes in the Kuslivak region of Alaska, will provide culturally relevant shelter, victim services, and healing services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking. The organization will enhance tribal resources and strategies to address and prevent violence within the communities and develop internal capacity and infrastructure. The Alaska Native Justice Center has partnered with the shelter to plan the project. Performance takes place in Emmonak, Alaska. This is a continuation award.
