The grants to indian tribal governments program assists tribal governments, and authorized designees of tribal governments, to 1) decrease the incidence of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, SEX trafficking, and stalking in tribal communities; 2) strengthen the capacity of tribes to exercise their sovereign authority to respond to these violent crimes; and 3) ensure that perpetrators of these violent crimes are held accountable for their criminal behavior. The knik tribe is a federally recognized tribe located in palmer, alaska, about 40 miles northeast of anchorage. Tribal women in crisis (TWIC), an agency of the knik tribal government, supports women who are victims of domestic violence. With this funding, the TWIC will: 1) provide victim advocacy services for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and SEX trafficking; 2) develop education and prevention strategies to engage the community in addressing these crimes; and 3) provide transitional housing services for victims. The knik tribe has partnered with alaska family services (AFS), a local non-profit, to plan this project. The timing for performance of this new award is 36 months.
