About this award

The San Francisco Particular Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP-SF) received a $550,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women (CFDA 16.736 - Transitional Housing Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking, or Sexual Assault Program) to provide transitional housing and support services for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in San Francisco. The 3-year grant, which began on October 1, 2023, will fund the operation of a 12-unit communal residence and the delivery of a range of services, including case management, counseling, housing assistance, employment support, and follow-up services. SVDP-SF will collaborate with partners Arriba Juntos and Jewish Vocational Services to deliver these comprehensive, victim-centered transitional housing and support services, with a focus on serving underserved populations in the region.

Description

The primary purpose of the transitional housing program is to provide aid to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are homeless, as defined by 34 U.S.C. 12473(6), or in need of transitional housing or other housing assistance, as a result of their victimization, and for whom emergency shelter services or other crisis intervention services are unavailable or insufficient. The program supports holistic, survivor-centered approaches to providing transitional housing and support services that move individuals into permanent housing and help them secure employment and integrate into a community. The SAN francisco particular council of the society of ST. Vincent DE paul (SVDP-SF) is a non-profit organization located in SAN francisco, CA, an urban region of the state. The organization will provide one communal residence for 12 survivors and their families through program-owned housing units. The SVDP-SF will collaborate with its partners, the arriba juntos and jewish vocational services to provide a holistic, victim-centered and multidisciplinary approach to transitional housing needs in the community. This new project will use funds to provide both housing and supportive services to move survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking who are homeless or in need of housing assistance to permanent housing. The project will assist clients for an anticipated minimum of 6 months and maximum length of 24 months. Services offered will focus on serving underserved populations in the region - black/african american, asian/pacific islander, hispanic/latinx, and immigrants. The grant activities will be tailored to meet the needs of the survivors. The range of optional support services includes case management; peer-based counseling; support groups and workshops; assistance in obtaining housing; support for parents; assistance with obtaining financial independence; employment assistance including job training, placement, and retention. Follow-up services will be provided between 3 and 12 months once permanent housing is secured.
