About this award

Rahama Inc. received a $450,000 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women under the Grants for Outreach and Services to Underserved Populations program (CFDA 16.889). The three-year award, issued on October 1, 2021 and set to be completed by September 30, 2024, will support Rahama in creating and implementing a model to provide outreach and services to underserved adult and youth victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Grand Island, New York. Key services include recruiting, training, and employing one peer navigator over the course of the grant period to provide technical support and assistance to survivors, as well as expanding parenting classes for victims with children beyond elementary school age through a subaward to Jewish Family Services of WNY. The award modifications will allow Rahama to better meet the needs of its underserved survivor population through an adapted service delivery approach.

Description

A. The original MOU with project partners did not include partners being obligated to a "train the trainer" model training program. Therefore we are changing this goal from creating and implementing a replicable model and then training other agencies on the replicable model to purely - creating and implementing the model. B. We originally had as a goal to recruit and train 2 peer navigators each year of three. We have learned that our survivors have a variety of obligations and limitations that make taking on the peer navigator employment. They additionally require significant technical support in order to complete required duties within the job description. As a result we are modifying this goal to include recruiting, training, and employing one peer navigator over the course of three years. C. We have found that our need for parenting classes goes beyond our planned elementary aged children. As a result we are adding the partner, jewish family services of WNY in order to be able to provide parenting classes for parents with older children.
