The purpose of the cops office school violence prevention program (svpp) is to improve security at schools and on school grounds through school safety programs and technology

The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Sheridan School District $500,000 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to improve school security at the district's facilities in Sheridan, Oregon.

Sheridan School District, a local education agency in Yamhill County, will implement evidence-based school safety programs and acquire security technology, including metal detectors, locks, lighting, emergency notification systems, and coordination with local law enforcement to prevent student violence. The award covers a three-year performance period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. The district must submit semiannual programmatic performance reports and quarterly federal financial reports, and will be subject to Department of Justice monitoring activities including site visits and compliance reviews to ensure funds are used consistent with the approved budget and statutory requirements that improvements were developed in consultation with law enforcement, mental health professionals, school personnel, parents, and students.

Funding under this award program will be used by the school jurisdiction to implement evidence-based programs to improve school security.
