The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Port Allegany School District $226,491 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to implement evidence-based security enhancements and violence prevention measures at schools and on school grounds.
The award funds coordination with local law enforcement, training for officers to prevent student violence, placement of metal detectors and other physical deterrents, and acquisition and installation of technology for emergency notification systems. Port Allegany School District, a rural public school district in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, serves as the prime recipient.
The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. The School Violence Prevention Program authorizes funding directly to states, units of local government, Indian tribes, and their public agencies for three-year award periods, with extensions considered case-by-case for up to 12 additional months upon approval by the COPS Office Director. Recipients must submit semiannual programmatic performance reports, quarterly SF-425 federal financial reports, and a final closeout report, and must participate in DOJ monitoring activities including site visits and compliance reviews.
