The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Palestine Independent School District $500,000 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to improve security at schools and on school grounds through evidence-based programs.
Palestine ISD will use the funding to implement school safety improvements including coordination with local law enforcement, officer training, placement and use of metal detectors and other deterrent measures, and acquisition and installation of technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency. The award covers the three-year period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028, with performance taking place in Palestine, Texas. The recipient must submit programmatic performance reports semiannually and SF-425 federal financial reports quarterly, along with a final closeout report upon completion. Extensions beyond the three-year term may be considered on a case-by-case basis for up to 12 additional months.
