The Community Oriented Policing Program (COPS Office) within the Department of Justice awarded New Lexington City Schools $334,125 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to implement evidence-based school safety programs that improve security at schools and school grounds.
The award funds initiatives including coordination with local law enforcement, training for law enforcement officers to prevent student violence, placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting and other deterrent measures, and acquisition and installation of technology for expedited emergency notification to law enforcement. The recipient may also pursue other measures that provide significant improvement in security at the discretion of the COPS Office Director.
Performance runs through September 30, 2028, with work performed in New Lexington, Ohio. New Lexington City Schools is a public school district that serves as the legal recipient and ultimate implementer of the award. The assistance type is a Project Grant. Recipients must submit semiannual programmatic performance reports and quarterly Federal Financial Reports (SF-425), participate in COPS Office monitoring activities including site visits and compliance reviews, and submit a final closeout report. Extensions beyond the three-year performance period may be considered on a case-by-case basis for up to twelve additional months.
