The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Saint Johns Unified School District #1 $109,529 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to implement evidence-based school security programs and technology.
The award funds coordination with local law enforcement, training for law enforcement officers to prevent student violence, placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting and other deterrent measures, and acquisition and installation of technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency. The district may also implement other measures that provide significant improvement in security at the determination of the COPS Office Director.
The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028, with the possibility of a 12-month extension considered on a case-by-case basis. Recipients must submit programmatic performance reports semiannually and SF-425 Federal Financial Reports quarterly, along with a final closeout report. The COPS Office will conduct award monitoring activities including site visits, office-based reviews, and periodic surveys to ensure compliance with programmatic and financial requirements.
