The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Lakeland Union High School $500,000 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to improve security at schools and on school grounds through evidence-based school safety programs.
The award funds implementation of security improvements in Lakeland Union High School's jurisdiction in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Eligible uses include coordination with local law enforcement, training for local law enforcement officers to prevent student violence, placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting and other deterrent measures, acquisition and installation of technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during emergencies, and other measures determined by the COPS Office Director to provide significant security improvements.
The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. Lakeland Union High School, a public secondary school located in Minocqua, Wisconsin, is the recipient. The award is structured as a three-year project grant and may be extended on a case-by-case basis for up to 12 additional months upon approval by the COPS Office Director.
