The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded Wagon Mound Public School $472,714 on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to implement evidence-based school safety programs and improve security at schools and on school grounds in Wagon Mound, New Mexico.

The School Violence Prevention Program funds measures including coordination with local law enforcement, training for officers to prevent student violence, placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting and other deterrents, acquisition and installation of emergency notification technology, and other security improvements approved by the COPS Office Director. The award covers a three-year period of performance from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. Wagon Mound Public School, a rural school district serving Hispanic communities in northern New Mexico, must submit semiannual programmatic performance reports and quarterly Federal Financial Reports, along with a final closeout report. The COPS Office will conduct monitoring activities including site visits, office-based reviews, and surveys to ensure compliance with nonsupplanting requirements and programmatic and financial obligations.

Funding under this award program will be used by the school jurisdiction to implement evidence-based programs to improve school security.
