The purpose of the cops office school violence prevention program (svpp) is to improve security at schools and on school grounds through school safety programs and technology

The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded $347,809 to Eminence R-1 School District on October 1, 2025, under the School Violence Prevention Program (CFDA 16.071) to implement evidence-based school safety programs and security measures.

The award funds school security improvements at Eminence Elementary School in Winona, Missouri through September 30, 2028. Eligible activities include coordination with local law enforcement, training for officers to prevent student violence, placement of metal detectors and deterrent measures such as locks and lighting, acquisition and installation of emergency notification technology to alert law enforcement during emergencies, and other security improvements approved by the COPS Office Director.

The School Violence Prevention Program provides three-year awards directly to states, units of local government, Indian tribes, and their public agencies to improve security at schools and on school grounds through evidence-based programs. Recipients must submit semiannual programmatic performance reports and quarterly federal financial reports, participate in COPS Office monitoring activities including site visits and compliance reviews, and demonstrate that improvements were developed after consultation with law enforcement, mental health professionals, social workers, students, parents, teachers, principals, and other school personnel to ensure the funded measures address school-specific needs as part of a comprehensive violence prevention approach.

Funding under this award program will be used by the school jurisdiction to implement evidence-based programs to improve school security.
