The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded the Georgia Bureau of Investigation $1.961 million on October 1, 2025, under the COPS Anti-Heroin Task Force Program (CFDA 16.073) to support multi-agency opioid trafficking investigations across Georgia.
The award funds investigation of illicit activities related to the distribution of heroin, fentanyl, and carfentanil, and unlawful distribution of prescription opioids through statewide collaboration among law enforcement agencies. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Finance Department will use the funding to foster and coordinate investigative activities across the state.
Performance period runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028, with place of performance in Decatur, Georgia. The assistance type is a Project Grant. The program awards three-year grants to state law enforcement agencies in states with high per capita rates of primary treatment admissions for opioid-related conditions, with extensions of up to twelve additional months available on a case-by-case basis.
