Description
The purpose of the proposed white earth 2025 safer outcomes DE-escalation crisis response training project is to give white earth first-responders the tools needed to be able to properly DE-escalate crises and critical events through verbal contact with community members without using force. The DE-escalation crisis response training project proposal requests $250,000 over a 2-year period of funding to be used for purchasing a virtual reality police training simulator and tuition for DE-escalation training classes held by the minnesota crisis intervention team providing post-compliant instruction, personnel support, and culturally responsive practices. The department recognizes that with the use of DE-escalation training, first responders can be prepared with the tools they need to demonstrate goodwill, neutralize threats without violence, and respectfully engage the community, helping to build public trust and avoiding potential tragedies before they may occur.
