The Department of Justice Offices Boards and Divisions awarded $690,331 to the Native Village of Tununak on October 1, 2025, under the Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Grants program (CFDA 16.710) to hire and rehire career sworn law enforcement officers, tribal police officers, and village public safety officers in the Tununak tribal jurisdiction.
The award supports the COPS Office Tribal Resources Grant Hiring Program (TRGP-HIRE), which advances community policing in tribal jurisdictions by building law enforcement capacity to prevent and disrupt crime and violence. The Native Village of Tununak, a federally recognized Qaluyaarmiut Yupik tribe on Nelson Island in southwest Alaska with a population of 616 residents, will deploy these officers to serve its geographically isolated community. Performance of work occurs in Tununak, Alaska 99681. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030. This is a Project Grant assistance type.
