Description

The harris county sheriff's office (HCSO) will use FY24 safer outcomes funding to support for our behavioral health division and behavioral health training unit to strengthen existing training programs and share our expertise with other agencies. As a designated mental health and law enforcement learning site, we aim to serve as a model for regional and national agencies. Our primary objectives include developing specialized curricula, conducting formal assessments of current programs, and creating high-quality training aids. We will analyze data from training sessions, review real-life applications of DE-escalation techniques, and revise policies to reflect best practices. In addition, we will offer presentations and workshops to engage with other law enforcement agencies and community partners, demonstrating the effectiveness of our programs. Our team consists of skilled professionals in law enforcement, mental health, and program evaluation, dedicated to continuous improvement and collaboration. Throughout the funding period, we will actively train both our personnel and those from other agencies. This collaborative effort will enable US to refine our approach based on real-world applications and feedback. At the end of the grant period, we will thoroughly evaluate the grant's impact and devise strategies to sustain and build upon our efforts. The proposed project's mission is to promote safer, more effective crisis response strategies and improve outcomes for individuals experiencing mental health crises and the communities in which they reside. By working together, we can make a significant and lasting impact in promoting the well-being of both law enforcement officers and the public they serve.
