The Township of West Milford was awarded a $750,000 Project Grant under the U.S. Department of Justice's COPS Hiring Program (CFDA 16.710 - Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Grants). The grant funding will be used by the township to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. Key anticipated outcomes include enhanced engagement in planned community partnerships, implementation of projects to analyze and assess problems, changes to personnel and agency management in support of community policing, and increased capacity for the agency to participate in community policing activities. The COPS Hiring Program supports law enforcement agencies in developing and implementing community policing strategies through comprehensive training, technology acquisition, and organizational development initiatives.
