CANTON POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL USE FY24 MICROGRANTS FUNDS TO TARGET SERVICES FOR RESIDENTS OF THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT WHO HAVE BEEN UNDERSERVED FOR DECADES. THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT IS HOME TO A LARGE APARTMENT COMPLEX RUN THROUGH THE STARK METRO HOUSING AUTHORITY, AS WELL AS PRIVATELY RUN LOW-INCOME APARTMENTS, AND AN APARTMENT BUILDING DEDICATED TO INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. THE AREA SEES A CRIME RATE 102% HIGHER THAN THE REST OF CANTON, INCLUDING A 120.58% HIGHER VIOLENT CRIME RATE. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL INCREASE PATROLS IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE COMMUNITY RELATIONS.
