THE HUNTINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL USE FY24 LEMHWA FUNDING TO IMPLEMENT A COMPREHENSIVE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM FOR ALL 37 OF ITS SWORN OFFICERS. PROJECT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: 1) MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING EVENTS FOR OFFICERS COVERING NUTRITION, MINDFULNESS, AND SUICIDE PREVENTION; 2) ACQUIRING A MOBILE WELLNESS APP TO PROVIDE OFFICERS WITH 24/7, ON-DEMAND ACCESS TO CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELING AND OTHER MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES; AND 3) PURCHASING WELLNESS ON-THE-GO BAGS FOR ALL OFFICERS. THESE ACTIVITIES WILL ADDRESS THE PUBLIC SAFETY NEED OF IMPROVING OFFICER MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING TO ENSURE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF POLICING AND PROMOTE POSITIVE COMMUNITY INTERACTIONS. HPD WILL PARTNER WITH BOWEN CENTER-HUNTINGTON, A LOCAL MEDICAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CLINIC, WHICH WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LEADING THE TRAINING COMPONENT OF THIS PROJECT. HPD INTENDS TO COMPLETE AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATION OF ITS GRANT-FUNDED ACTIVITIES AND DISSEMINATE FINDINGS THROUGH THE COPS OFFICE.
