THE COLTON JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (CJUSD) IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA PROPOSES THE PROJECT "CJUSD - DETERRING AND PREVENTING SCHOOL VIOLENCE INCIDENTS" TO ADDRESS RISING SAFETY CONCERNS. SERVING OVER 19,727 STUDENTS FROM THE COMMUNITIES OF BLOOMINGTON, COLTON, AND GRAND TERRACE, CJUSD RECOGNIZES THE IMPERATIVE NEED FOR ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES TO ENSURE A SAFE AND CONDUCIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. TO TACKLE THE MOUNTING CONCERNS RELATED TO SCHOOL SAFETY, CJUSD HAS DEVISED AN INNOVATIVE STRATEGY INVOLVING THE ADOPTION OF ADVANCED SECURITY TECHNOLOGIES. THE DISTRICT INTENDS TO USE FUNDS FROM THE COPS SVPP GRANT TO DEPLOY THE EVOLV EXPRESS SYSTEM, A STATE-OF-THE-ART TOUCHLESS SECURITY SCREENING SOLUTION, ACROSS NINE SECONDARY SCHOOL SITES. THIS SYSTEM, POWERED BY ADVANCED SENSORS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, IS ADEPT AT SWIFTLY IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL THREATS. IT IS PARTICULARLY DESIGNED TO COMBAT THE ESCALATING ISSUE OF WEAPONS WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS, PROVIDING A RAPID AND EFFECTIVE RESPONSE TO THE GROWING SECURITY CONCERN. BY SCREENING A LARGE STUDENT POPULATION QUICKLY AND WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT, IT NOT ONLY ENHANCES OUR SECURITY PROTOCOLS BUT ALSO ALIGNS WITH OUR COMMITMENT TO CREATING A SAFE, NON-INTRUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. CJUSD PLANS TO INTEGRATE THE EVOLV INSIGHTS APPLICATION, A DATA-ORIENTED TOOL THAT WILL ENABLE US TO HARNESS AND ANALYZE SECURITY DATA TO INFORM OUR STRATEGIES, ENSURING OUR RESPONSE TO SAFETY ISSUES IS NOT JUST REACTIVE BUT PROACTIVE AND EVIDENCE-BASED. THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THIS DUAL-TECHNOLOGY APPROACH IS TO REVERSE THE RISING TREND OF DISCIPLINARY INCIDENTS INVOLVING WEAPONS AND OTHER DANGEROUS OBJECTS WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS. CJUSD'S PROPOSED MEASURES BOLSTER SCHOOL SECURITY THROUGH EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGIES, EXPEDITE LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE, AND ACTIVELY WORK TO PREVENT VIOLENCE. THESE MEASURES ENHANCE COORDINATION WITH KEY PARTNERS, THE COLTON AND SAN BERNARDINO POLICE DEPARTMENTS, THEREBY CREATING A COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY NETWORK. THE SHIFT FROM REACTIVE TO PROACTIVE SECURITY PROTOCOLS PRIORITIZES EARLY INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION. THIS APPROACH, COUPLED WITH THE CAPABILITIES OF THE EVOLV EXPRESS SYSTEM AND EVOLV INSIGHTS APPLICATION, FOSTERS RESPECT FOR SCHOOL RULES AND PRIVACY, REDUCING INTRUSIVE SEARCHES. BY FOCUSING ON POTENTIAL THREATS INSTEAD OF SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS, CJUSD HOPES TO FOSTER A CULTURE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND RESPECT. THE ANTICIPATED IMPACT OF THESE MEASURES EXTENDS BEYOND DIRECT SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS. BY FOSTERING A SAFER, MORE SECURE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, THE FEAR AND ANXIETY ASSOCIATED WITH VIOLENCE ARE REDUCED, CONTRIBUTING TO A POSITIVE LEARNING CULTURE. IMPROVED MENTAL WELL-BEING AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG THE STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT ARE EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THIS PROJECT. BY LEVERAGING ADVANCED SENSORS AND AI, EVOLV EXPRESS OFFERS EFFECTIVE THREAT IDENTIFICATION, AND THE PRESENCE OF THIS HIGH-TECH SCREENING EQUIPMENT CAN DETER POTENTIAL INCIDENTS. UTILIZING EVOLV INSIGHTS ALLOWS FOR RESOURCE ALLOCATION BASED ON REAL, ACTIONABLE DATA, ENHANCING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROJECT. CJUSD'S COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND LEARNING, IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, SETS THE STAGE FOR A SECURE, THRIVING FUTURE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
