GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOLS (GCS) SEEKS $500,000 OF A $825,000 PROJECT TO LEASE FIVE (5) EVOLV FULLY PORTABLE, DUAL-LANE WEAPON DETECTION SYSTEMS, A VITAL COMPONENT OF GCSS ENHANCED WEAPON DETECTION PROGRAM. THIS EQUIPMENT WILL MORE THAN DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF SYSTEMS AVAILABLE FOR USE IN ALL 101 GCS SCHOOLS AND CENTERS, INCLUDING 84PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS. THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO PREVENT THE PRESENCE OF OR USE OF WEAPONS TO COMMIT ACTS OF VIOLENCE AT SCHOOL FACILITIES. THE GCS OFFICE OF SCHOOL ENFORCEMENT, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE GREENVILLE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, WILL TRANSPORT EACH UNIT DAILY TO A MINIMUM OF SEVEN (7) RANDOMLY SELECTED SCHOOLS. AT A MINIMUM, EACH UNIT WILL VISIT 35 SCHOOLS DURING A TYPICAL SCHOOL WEEK. EACH EVOLV WEAPON DETECTION SYSTEM TRAVELS WITH THREE SHERIFFS DEPUTIES AND THREE TECHNICIANS. THE TECHNOLOGY ENABLES THE DETECTION OF SHAPES, DENSITY, AND THE LOCATION OF POTENTIAL WEAPONS. IT DOES NOT CAPTURE OR RECORD THE PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INDIVIDUAL, THEREFORE PROTECTING THEIR PRIVACY AND CIVIL RIGHTS. THE CAMPUS LOCATION WILL ALSO VARY, INCLUDING PLACEMENT AT ENTRYWAYS, GRADE-LEVEL HALLWAYS, GYMNASIUM, CAFETERIA, MAIN LOBBY, AND OTHER COMMON, HIGH-TRAFFIC AREAS. NOTIFICATION OF THESE VISITS IS LIMITED TO SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, THEREFORE OPTIMIZING THE EFFECTIVE USE OF THE EQUIPMENT TO DETER AND PREVENT THE PRESENCE OF WEAPONS ON CAMPUS. ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL THREATS TO SCHOOL SAFETY WILL INITIATE TRANSPORTING THE EQUIPMENT TO AN AFFECTED SCHOOL. GCS WILL ALSO TRANSPORT THE TECHNOLOGY TO VARIOUS AFTER-SCHOOL EVENTS, SUCH AS ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS. INTEGRATING EVOLV TECHNOLOGY INTO THE DISTRICTS SCHOOL SECURITY PROTOCOLS WILL IMPACT EVERY GCS FACILITY (77,000+ STUDENTS, 11,000+ EMPLOYEES) ACROSS 800 SQUARE MILES IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. EXPANDING THE WEAPON DETECTION PROGRAM AIMS TO IMPLEMENT PROCEDURES DESIGNED TO ADVANCE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, STAFF, AND VISITORS WITHIN THE SCHOOL SETTING AND TO PROVIDE A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING.
